🍋 Studio Limun

Location: 📍 Ul. Mihe Klaića 7 (Old Town) This is Zadar’s trendiest design hub. It’s a bright, welcoming space filled with curated works from independent Croatian illustrators and potters.

What to buy: Limited edition Zadar-themed prints, “funky” ceramic mugs, and minimalist jewelry.
Host Tip: Look for the “Sea Organ” minimalist sketches—they are the perfect modern memory of your trip.

🏺 Museum of Ancient Glass Shop

Location: 📍 Poljana Zemaljskog Odbora 1 Located inside the museum, this is not a typical gift shop. You can watch glass-blowers use 2,000-year-old Roman techniques right in front of you.

What to buy: Hand-blown replicas of Roman “tear vials,” unique glass necklaces, and heavy glass bowls.
Host Tip: The glass beads made on-site are affordable, stunning, and completely unique to Zadar.

🍒 Maraska Store

Location: 📍 Ul. Nadbiskupa Mate Karamana 3 The birthplace of the world-famous Maraschino. This liqueur has been made from the local Marasca cherry since the 16th century and was a favorite of Napoleon and Queen Victoria.

What to buy: The iconic straw-wrapped bottle of Maraschino or “Cherrica” (a sweet cherry liqueur).
Host Tip: If you aren’t a fan of strong spirits, buy their Marasca Cherry Syrup—it’s the best souvenir for kids or for making cocktails at home.

🧀 Gligora Cheese Deli

Location: 📍 Near the City Market (Pijaca) Gligora is the world’s most awarded producer of Paški sir (Pag Island Cheese). It’s a hard sheep’s milk cheese aged in olive oil and ash.

What to buy: A wedge of Paški sir or Kolan cheese.
Host Tip: Ask them to “vacuum-seal” (vakumirati) your cheese. It will keep for months and won’t smell in your suitcase!

⛪ Ora et Labora (The Nuns’ Shop)

Location: 📍 Madijevaca ul. 8 A hidden gem run by the Benedictine Nuns. They follow the rule of “Pray and Work,” creating products within the silent walls of their monastery.

What to buy: Herbal liqueurs, handmade bookmarks with dried flowers, and traditional religious art replicas.
Host Tip: Their Honey with Walnuts is a traditional Zadar treat that goes perfectly with a cheese platter.

Location: 📍 Ul. Jurja Bijankinija 8 shop with lots of options with souvenir local hand made shop gift items like so many things under one roof which make your life more easy in hot summer.

What to buy: Immortelle (Smilje) face cream, handmade lavender soaps, and rosemary essential oils.
Host Tip: Immortelle is known as the “immortal flower” of the Adriatic—it’s the ultimate natural anti-aging secret of local women.

👔 CROATA Museum Concept Store

Location: 📍 Jurja Barakovica 5 Did you know the necktie (cravat) was invented in Croatia? This museum-style shop tells the history of the tie while selling the finest silk versions in the world.

What to buy: A silk tie or scarf featuring ancient Glagolitic script.
Host Tip: Even if you aren’t buying, go inside to see the stunning 12th-century aristocratic interior—it’s like a free mini-museum.

💡 How to Shop Like a Local

The “Market” Strategy: If you want local olive oil or dried figs, go to the Main City Market before 11:00 AM. Look for the local ladies with small tables—they have the freshest stuff.
Check for the Seal: Look for the “Izvorno Hrvatsko” (Originally Croatian) label to ensure you aren’t buying a cheap import.
VAT Refunds: If you are from outside the EU and spend over a certain amount (usually €100+), ask for a “Tax-Free” form to get your VAT back at the airport.

🧭 The “Zadar Treasures” Half-Day Itinerary

A curated 4-hour loop through the Old Town’s best shops and local hangouts.

🕘 09:00 – The Gourmet Start

Start at: The Zadar Pijaca (Main Market) Begin your morning where the locals do. Browse the open-air stalls for dried figs, local honey, and olive oil.

The Stop: Gligora Cheese Deli (right next to the market).
The Mission: Get your cheese vacuum-sealed now so you don’t have to carry it in the afternoon heat.
Local Hack: Look for the “Grandmas” selling lavender bundles—they are the cheapest and most fragrant souvenirs you’ll find.

🕙 10:30 – The “Pauza” (Coffee Break)

Location: Narodni Trg (People’s Square) After the market rush, do as the Zadrani do: sit down for a coffee.

The Stop: Kavana Lovre.
The Vibe: This café is built inside a 12th-century church (St. Lawrence). Sit outside to watch the city pass by, or peek inside to see the ancient stone arches.

🕚 11:30 – Heritage & Scents

Walk to: The Nuns’ Shop & Souvenir shop Walk 2 minutes from the square to find the quieter, more spiritual side of Zadar.

The Stop: Ora et Labora (St. Mary’s Monastery) followed by Ars Natura on the main street.
The Mission: Pick up a bottle of monastery honey and some Immortelle (Smilje) face oil.
Local Hack: If the Nuns’ window is closed, ring the small bell!

🕛 13:00 – Modern Craft & Glass Blowing

Walk to: Studio Limun & The Glass Museum Head toward the northern city walls for a dose of art and history.

The Stop: Studio Limun for modern prints, then the Museum of Ancient Glass.
The Experience: Try to time your visit to the Museum for a live glass-blowing demonstration (usually every hour in the morning).
Local Hack: The terrace of the Museum has one of the best “secret” views of the Zadar bridge.

🕜 14:00 – The Grand Finale

Walk to: The Maraska Store End your tour by visiting the “King of Zadar” spirits.

The Stop: Maraska Store.
The Mission: Pick up a bottle of Maraschino liqueur or the Maraska cherry chocolates (great for sharing).
The Reward: Walk toward the Sea Organ, sit on the steps, and listen to the ocean play you a song after your successful shopping trip.

For something sweet: Art Kavana. They make the best traditional cakes with a modern twist.
