🙋♂️ Know Before You Go: Zadar Transport FAQ
The most cost-effective way is the Airport Bus (look for the “Liburnija” logo), which costs about €5 and departs roughly 30 minutes after every flight arrival. It stops at the Main Bus Station and the Old Town harbor. For more comfort, an Uber or Bolt typically costs between €15–€25, depending on the season and time of day.
The Old Town (Poluotok) is primarily a pedestrian zone. Driving is restricted to residents and delivery. If you have a car, park it in Zone 2. It is pay-per-hour via machine or SMS. Pro Tip: Parking is much cheaper and easier to find across the bridge on the “mainland” side (near the Marina), just a 5-minute walk from the center. Zones, prices and other info can be found HERE.
You can buy tickets directly from the bus driver (cash only, small bills preferred) or at “Tisak” newsstands throughout the city. A single ride is roughly €1.60. If you plan to use the bus often, ask for a 10-ride pass at the newsstand for a better rate.
The Barkajoli are the traditional rowboat men who connect the mainland (near the Maraska building) to the Old Town peninsula. It is a 1-minute crossing that has existed for 800 years. It costs €2 per person (cash only). It’s the most “Zadar” way to travel!
Zadar has two ports, and this is a common mix-up!
- Old Town Port: For foot passengers only (fast catamarans and the ferry to Preko).
- Gaženica Port: Located 3.5km south of the center. This is for car ferries and large cruise ships. If you are taking a car to the islands, you must go to Gaženica.
While Uber, Bolt, and major tour agencies accept cards, you must have cash for:
- Local city bus drivers.
- The Barkajoli rowboats.
- Small parking meters (though some now accept apps like ‘Bmove’).
- Small boat rentals or private skippers.
📱The “Apps to Download” Section
🚗 Uber / Bolt: For easy taxis.
🗺️ Google Maps: For bus routes.
⛴️ Jadrolinija App: For buying ferry tickets on your phone to skip the kiosk lines.
